The
Tick vs. Mr. Mental
|
The
Tick vs. Mr. Mental is the first episode that really showcases
The Tick's mightiness
and his achilles heel (his mind). Mr.
Mental hypnotizes The Tick and sends him to steal the Thinking
Cap from Pendecker Labs. In route, The Tick crashes through
explosion proof walls, swims through a toxic river, and battles
a giant robot to acquire the cap; then he battles Arthur,
the Caped Chameleon,
and Sewer Urchin before
giving the cap to Mr. Mental. In all the episodes, this one
is really the only one where you really see The Tick battling
and really kicking ass. Once Mr. Mental has the thinking cap,
he releases the Tick (since he's no longer necessary) and the
heroes have to try to get it back...
This
episode also introduces another Tick favorite, the Evil Eye
Cafe. The Evil Eye is a hangout where the supervillains and
henchmen of The City congregate. There are many villains there,
but no one recognizable...although there is a villain that looks
a lot like the Evil Midnight Bomber.

A
day job! In an office! My worst nightmare!
|
My
favorite part of this episode is when Mr. Mental enters The
Tick's mind and releases his worst nightmare to battle his mind
into submission. It turns out that Tick's worst nightmare is
to have a day job in an office! Classic...

The
Tick's Mind (voiced as a receptionist):
You

is out of his mind right now…if you'd like to leave a message,
wait for the tone…
